about

ollo's second album features a step forward in the 'bower bird' approach to production and a significant shift from instrumentals to songwriting. It goes for the jugular in doing so, with songs about an extremely close relative's terminal diagnosis, depression, love, the perils of the bright lights of the city, heartbreak, a reaction to the absurdity of the iraq war, and a song equating duplicity in advertising with that in politics.

It also features a song by the sublime Inga Liljeström.

As well as vintage synths, this album features sounds such as vocal percussion, a CD skipping backwards, live trumpet, cello and string section, a pigeon’s wings, a car interior, German poetry, a Southern Highlands forest, a flock of currawongs, a cat, radio recordings, a recorder, guitar, ebow, pebbles and twigs, some birds in Denmark, chopped up drum samples, a rollercoaster at Legoland UK, Thai karaoke TV, scissors, piano, and tiny snatches of a concert recorded to voicemail via mobile phone.

Track Name: Trouble Is
I really should eat more bananas and get more exercise
To fend off this downward spiral
Just when I think I might be safe it likes to surprise
Breeding helix like something more viral
Close my eyes on the slippery dip
Waiting for the bottom to hit
Better brace yourself, boy
Better brace yourself
Better brace yourself, boy
It doesn’t matter if your raincoat is tailor made
Hand stitched and bone-buttoned
One day you’ll forget it
Track Name: Shaky Flaky
shaky flaky
hands off snakey
wakey moth
plop plop
regardless
Track Name: Wakey Moth
Wakey moth
Close your eyes and picture
The passing of the tides
Wakey moth, wakey moth
Keep your wings by your side
And see what stillness brings
The light looks so very bright
Such magnetic flicker
But those that glister can be cold
Such a devilish trickster
It’ll be the death of you
Wakey moth
Catch the breeze and ride it
Far as you please
Wakey moth, wakey moth
Embrace the fragrant forest air
And whisper to the trees
Oh, the light looks so very bright
Such magnetic flicker
But those that glister can be cold
Such a devilish trickster
It’ll be the death of you, you know
Track Name: The If If
With the stinging quiet
And the sun still sometimes low
Now I know
That if you’d never been there
I could never understand the pain
So stand next to me
Stay so I can see
That turbulent waves
Can sparkle like your eyes
When someone wants to own the rain
I need a little love procaine
With the stinging quiet
And the sun still sometimes low
Stand next to me
Stay so I can see
Track Name: Phobegone Days
So many ways to be afraid
And all of them a waste
Track Name: Everywhere Nowhere
Ooooh oooooooh
Over you
Ooooooh WOOOoooh
Track Name: Gordian Knotted
Lyrics by Inga Liljström

Like waking up
I imagine my escape with you
A mountain peak crack’d open
I don’t know how to move
Are my hands still knotted
And my belly it burns with desire
I am shattered
I am shattered
Stormy seas
I live for it now
Reckless head, a restless heart
A silver thread to catch my love upon
Are my hands still knotted
And my belly it burns with desire
A silver thread to catch my love upon
Are my hands still knotted
And my belly it burns with desire
I want my lover pure still
Want him come take his fill
Track Name: The Campaign For Real Bread (Album Version)
So I’m sold on what I’m told
There’s no time to find
A piece of my own mind
And I’ve bought into a rort
If it’s digital I can live it all

And people in France
Start to dance at this dough
And people in cars
See the stars from pristine dunes of snow
And people in camps
Collect stamps for all i know...

So the campaign for real bread is here
You better make your mind up

So it goes that The Scipios
Take the higher ground
Wrap it right around their fingers

And people of blue
Never knew ‘bout this low
And people in bars
Trip to Mars to see their favourite show
And people in camps
Have skate ramps for all i know...

So the campaign for real bread is here
You better make your mind up
Track Name: That Sound
I never want to hear
That sound again
Still it ripples through my blood
Words of comfort bounce like rain
This land can’t take the flood
And no amount of busy drowns
Those reverberating tones
And no amount of running
Distances those chromosomes
When a beautiful old lady woke
From something like a spell
The coldest resolution
Cracked its icy shell
So it isn’t thunder now
That calls its retinue
Its just another tremor
In the DNA from you
I never want to hear
That sound again
