Gold Is The Colour

by The Nethered

Second single from the album 'Lost Songs' by The Nethered.

Gold is the evening sun on the marshes
Blinking out tiny lighthouse flashes
Born of the breeze through the rushes
As bustling coots leave glittering washes

Gold are the dunes where they greet the pines
With a threadbare coat of scruffy marram spines
Guarding the land in rolling lines
The soft honeyed hill-gates to beach and brine

Gold is the harrier’s wing on high
As she hovers hard in open skies
And drops like lead – down, down she dives
At scurriers from her talon knives

Gold are the fields of August wheat
Undulating in the breeze and heat
Echoing the swallow’s cheep
And lined with scarlet poppy fleets

And gold is the ring you’d never wear
Turning down a love so fair
Through all these years, too much to bear
Qu’il n’est jamais revenue d’la guerre
